Workington Transport Heritage Trust have just confirmed that this years Workington Model Railway Exhibition will definitely go ahead at Moorclose Sports Centre on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 November 2011. Doors will be open to the public from 10.00 am - 5.00 pm Saturday and 10.00 am - 4.00 pm on Sunday. As ever the exhibition is fully accessible with all exhibitors on the ground floor. Refreshments and free parking are available.
With 15 layouts it is the biggest event of its
type in Cumbria. Nine of them have not been seen in Workington before.
This
year layouts are coming from far and wide with an exceptional one, Bee Lane
coming all the way from Preston. It is a modern image layout featuring lots of
electric and diesel locomotives, some with digital sound systems! Miniature Live
Steam comes from Yorkshire courtesy of Brian Caton who has some exquisite hand
made miniature locomotives all based on the Isle of Man railway.
American, Austrian, and narrow gauge layouts, also
feature strongly. On its very first viewing in a new form is a model of Aspatria
station in O gauge complete with a couple of trains in the original Maryport and
Carlisle Railway livery. At over 30 feet long it is very BIG.
Full support
will come from modelling demonstrations, trade and society stands as well as the
chance to operate a couple of layouts or even drive a train on a computer!
